Who We Are

TJ Tanoos has been a fixture in the Evansville music scene since the early ‘90s, fronting bands like The C.R.O.W.D. and Tastes Like Chicken, while packing some of the town’s biggest venues. No matter the musical style, one thing is guaranteed - he’s going to put on a great show, and the crowd is going to have a great time.

After Tastes Like Chicken dissolved in 2020, he took a much-deserved break. Eventually, however, the venue owners and the people booking shows started asking: “When are you going to start another band?”

With Shredder-In-Chief Michael Van Bibber and Thunderbolts cheerleader/chanteuse Lakyn Kingrey on board, he brought in former partner-in-crime Jonathan Gluff on bass, who in turn brought his frequent collaborator, Jeremy Lewis, to pound the skins (that’s what she said!) of the drum kit. When Jonathan’s other obligations prevented a full-time commitment, he suggested Nick “Wild Man” Wildeman to hold down the low end. (Jonathan will be resuming his bass-thumping duties in August 2023!) They hit the ground running in August 2022 and haven’t slowed down since, bringing their mix of dance music, party rap, classic pop/rock, and ‘90s alternative to the masses.

So catch them at all the prime party places in Evansville. They’ll always leave you satisfied and wanting more…

THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!

TJ Tanoos

“Local legend.” “The Godfather.” “The GOAT.” (Okay, that last one might be bragging.) When it comes to the Evansville music scene, you can’t talk about the last 30 years and not mention frenetic frontman TJ Tanoos. From 1990 until 2003, his seminal grunge/alternative band The C.R.O.W.D. packed venerable venues like Harpole’s and Fast Eddy’s by playing staples from the ‘80s and ‘90s; later, his party band Tastes Like Chicken did the same at Time Out, Marina Pointe, and Bud’s with a mix of classic rock, ‘90s alternative, and modern pop/dance/rap hits.

While he more than holds his own with his singing and rapping, TJ understands the crowds want showmanship, and that’s something he brings in spades. Flashy suits, fan interaction, and high energy - all this has the crowds eating out of his hand from the moment the show starts until the final note. All of that proves those opening sobriquets aren’t just hyperbole.

Lakyn Kingrey

The Blonde Bombshell of That’s What She Said, Lakyn has always had a penchant for entertaining. While this may be the first proper band she’s ever been in, she’s no stranger to the stage - between cheerleading (both in high school and for Evansville’s own Thunderbolts) and belting out female-empowering country hits at karaoke, she’s a natural.

Seeing her perform the national anthem at a Thunderbolts game was all it took for TJ to know he had to get her in his band. She brings a much-needed country twang to the rest of the rockers, and ‘round these here parts, it’s mighty appreciated.

Mike Van Bibber

Mike was born in Chicago, but moved to Evansville in high school. Shortly after the move, he picked up guitar and joined his first all-original band at the tender age of 17. From there, he turned his love of metal into a lifelong passion, honing his playing to a razor-sharp edge while handling guitar duties for numerous metal bands throughout the tri-state area.

Throughout the years of melting faces and shredding heads with his six-string skills, he formed friendships with many local musicians, including “The Godfather” himself, TJ Tanoos. So when TJ was looking for a guitarist for his newest project, he tapped Mike to fill that hole (that’s what she said!)

Mike uses LTD, Fender, Ibanez, and HardLuck Kings guitars, Boss and Peavey amps, and a variety of effects from brands such as MXR, DOD, Boss, Electro-Harmonix, Morley, and many others.

Jeremy Lewis

Jeremy Lewis began his musical journey at a very young age by taking piano lessons. This building block would lead to performing and singing in church and a much deeper understanding of music theory. As Jeremy got older, he wanted to learn as much as he could about music, which cultivated a passion to learn the process of playing, performing, writing, and producing. He pursued music production during his college years, which led to stints in studios in Nashville, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, as well as teaching digital audio engineering at Vincennes University.

Since the age of 13, Jeremy has played in numerous bands in the Midwest, with drums being his primary instrument. After a brief hiatus, he met with TJ Tanoos about a concept of putting together a project of nonstop entertaining from the start to the finish of the show. That's What She Said was born in March of 2022. Jeremy brings years of playing experience, solid timing, electronic programming, musical arrangement, and vocal harmonies to the band. He is currently writing with TJ Tanoos to bring the first album of That's What She Said to life.

Jonathan Gluff

Jonathan began playing bass shortly after turning nine, was playing shows with his dad's gospel bluegrass band before he was 10, and learned to sing harmony by mimicking the band's banjo player. He then took a handful of piano and guitar fingerpicking lessons, but went back to bass again until he was 16. By then, he'd begun playing in bands of his own.

In his late teens/early 20s, he played with numerous hardcore & metal bands in his hometown of Kokomo, IN, before moving to Evansville in 2011. After playing acoustic shows/open mic nights for several years, he began playing with local bands again, handling bass duties in Tastes Like Chicken and guitar in Schwing! and Stackin' Eights. He's once again helping hold down the low end with That's What She Said!

He plays LTD basses, TC Electronic & Peavey amps, Sennheiser & X-Vive wireless systems, and Boss, Mooer, Morley, MXR, and EHX pedals.
